Rooting Grocery Store Basil From Cutting

I think we can all agree on one thing. And that is that basil holds a special place in the hearts of all herb gardeners <3. I know it does in mine. I plant several varieties of basil. Last year, I stumbled upon the ‘African Blue’ variety. It looked much like the variety that my hubby buys from the Middle Eastern grocery store but boy oh boy did it NOT taste the same. It is gorgeous though so I am happy I stumbled upon it.

One morning, I was eating my breakfast of pita bread, feta cheese and basil. I received a burst of inspiration. I decided to take one of the thick stems of the basil and try to root it. I took the thickest stem I could find and cut the bottom at an angle. I took all the leaves off. Then I dipped the bottom in some homemade rooting medium (I will talk about that in my next post) and tucked it into a small planter. In about 1 week, growth appeared!!!

And it continues to grow..

I think you might agree. You should always try. It never hurts to tuck a seed or cutting into some earth and fuel it with your love and care. You never know what wonderful thing could transpire.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend :-)
